This is where all of us local kids first learned how to hang on to a rope tow in the 1950s. It was our first experience with any kind of ski tow having learned the basics of skiing on our backyard hill. We would ski, toboggan and sled on that small hill walking back up each time. If we were lucky, Mom would shuttle us over to Peterborough on a Saturday morning early and set us free on the big hill for the day.

The rope tow was easy enough for us kids to hang onto as far as you can see to the top of this picture. As it crested over the top the rope was too heavy for us to hold up and if we weren't following someone tall enough to hold the rope up for us, we bit the dirt and everyone behind us began to crash into us causing a big pileup at the crest of the hill.
Whit's was run by a farmer who was pretty innovative for the times as far as grooming went. You can see a lot more about Whit's at http://www.nelsap.org/nh/petergc.htmlHappy Thanksgiving
